A history walk around Southwark

Join us as we explore south of the river for a change.

We’ll be entering the world of Chaucer, Dickens and Shakespeare and learning how this area influenced and inspired their work.

We’ll pass the magnificant Southwark cathedral and the ruins of Winchester Palace. We’ll visit a long forgotten graveyard for prostitutes and the ‘outcast dead’ and rest at the little known lunatic chair at St Barts Hospital. We’ll also visit the world-famous Borough Market and take a peek at Bridget Jones’s flat.

For centuries Southwark was outside the jurasdiction of the City of London so all sorts of mischief was indulged in – come prepared for some real surprises!

This very popular walk takes approximately two hours. We meet outside London Bridge station. Please contact julianwoodfield@mac.com for dates.
